i've been experiencing a very strong vacation withdrawal, which is most prominently characterized by an overwhelming disgust with every aspect of my current surroundings. i didn't expect to feel as heartbroken as i did when i was on the plane leaving copenhagen to return to the states and i've been haunted by a desire to abandon everything and move to scandinavia ever since. it's not fair to compare your real life to your vacation life, but i can't shake the suspicion that life there is more fulfilling in all arenas.

on my saturday in copenhagen i had the good fortune of seeing mcmaster, who moved to stockholm a year ago, and who happened to be changing trains in copenhagen on her way back to sweden from a festival. serendipity. i met her at central station and we lunched at bankeråt, the cafe where she, erik, and i had beers 7 years ago. then we had equivalent-to-7-euro iced coffees at a fancy coffee stand called the coffee collective. we sat in the grass at dronnings louise bro all the way up until we had to head back to central station, passing tivoli, to put mcmaster back on her train to stockholm. it's been 7 years and she's still one of those mythical beings, with unchanging magical vocal intonations and whose thoughts on life and humanity are a revelation.

Highlight 1: Little Mermaid Statue

The pavilion features the "Little Mermaid" statue from Copenhagen. It is the first time for the statue, a Danish national icon and major tourist attraction, to leave her hometown. Built in 1913 to honor the famous fairytale character created by Hans Christian Anderson, the Little Mermaid has been sitting on the edge of Copenhagen's harbor since 1913. The mermaid statue will make her Chinese debut at a man-made lake resembling the sights of Copenhagen harbor where the statue resides.

Highlight 2: Bicycles

In the pavilion visitors will be able to borrow bicycles and cycle throughout just as the Danes do in their cities. The concept of sustainability is reflected in free bicycle riding. Riding a bike through an area which is designed like Copenhagen streets will not only evoke the real Danish lifestyle in the capital city, but also promote environmentally friendly concepts. Denmark is a nation of bikes, and Copenhagen is famous for its free city bikes.

Highlight 3: Danish Lifestyle

Visitors can bring their children to play in an open square or enjoy a fun picnic on the rooftop garden. They can also sit beside the pool where the mermaid statue resides and put their foot into the water, just as Danes do in the Copenhagen Harbor. They will get the chance to sink their teeth into famous Danish specialties, such as open faced sandwiches better known as "smørrebrød".

ja, twas a grand parade, some friends got together, took some acid and sat in a pond in a park for about 6 hours. we also fed some to a dutch guy who had been in melbourne for about 4 days. he is going to think australia is an amazing wonderland.

Van buren house was the first room that ever felt like it was really mine. it was the first time i'd lived surrounded by colored walls. it had a microwave and a baby fridge and built-in bookshelves and a walk-in closet. Holger danskes vej was the first dorm i lived in. i would crank up the heater all the way all the time so that it was a terrarium. the windows were double-paned and the interstice was the best refrigerator. it kept drinks colder and safer than leaving them in the shared kitchen would. Chalfonte is my new home. i like the high ceilings and the new regolit very much.

danielle and i went to various loppe shops. i picked up a danish-english ordbog, fem kroner, and a copy of ragtime, to kroner. looking forward to reading both.

then we bought pastries filled with whipped cream from fotex and ate them on the grass in front of kilen. then we ate limeade popsicles in the holger courtyard.

we papered two walls in my room, smoked an apple, and painted portraits of each other. danielle is a forest maiden and i am a tentacled creature.

then we went out and bought the most massive sandwiches. the man was upset at us for ordering separately and forcing him to toast sandwiches in two rounds of toasting. we ate them on a bench under a tree across from the blue dog cafe.

napped. for what turned out to be a 2.5 hour nap. i dreamt that i had a white cat which perched on my shoulder. woke up and it was danielle's head+hair on my shoulder.

finally made it to the hvide lam, an amazizng jazz bar next to nørreport station. it's on Kultorvet and began in 1807, "En gammel hyggelig bar". jeg dansede swing med en gammel dansk mand. i had a lot of fun. the bassist was paul (wallace?), one of the men i'd seen playing in the trio outside the bar a few weeks ago. manden som dansede jeg med sagde, this was paul's last night playing - he is returning to australia tomorrow after 30 years in copenhagen.

i biked home and stjernekiggede in the courtyard. lying on the picnictabletops is perfect. did you know that the big dipper is perfectly framed by the holger danske courtyard. this is going to be useful for me: http://my.execpc.com/60/B3/culp/astronomy/Spring/Polar.html

i'll use it tomorrow. i would go back out but i'm too naked to do so at the moment.

tomorrow will be a good day for a shower.
