city boy
we spent time this week with my father's friends from high school, whom he hadn't seen or spoken to in forty years. when i asked him what they did in high school, he said, "nothing much," because he is an unforthcoming man. when i pressed him for details, he said, "we went swimming and played ping-pong."

yesterday at lunch my grandpa/ah-gong was talking about his last year of medical school, when all the universities were shut down and all the students were conscripted. they were stationed at a beach, in case the americans decided to attack the japanese from there. they spent their days digging trenches. in theory, if the americans landed, their vehicles would fall into the trenches.
the students starved - they had no food and raided neighboring farmers for yams. in theory, if the americans arrived, he and his peers were supposed to fight them, even though they were only a bunch of would-be doctors with no guns or other form of weaponry.

hello tomorrow
i went to filmLA today and they had these elevators unlike any i had ever seen before. after passing through security and acquiring your identification badge you have to walk across the filming lot (mad men?) into a different building. you have to tell the next security where you're going and they assign you to a specific elevator "go to C" that they have programmed from their desk, via computer, to take you to your destination floor, because inside the elevator, there are no buttons.

it's important to compare
Enos was originally scheduled to complete three orbits, but was brought back after the second orbit because the spacecraft was not maintaining proper attitude. According to observers, Enos jumped for joy and ran around the deck of the recovery ship enthusiastically shaking the hands of his rescuers.
does an old dog wonder why it's hard to jump onto the couch now? or why her human isn't around every day anymore
i hear there was a flask
these minute spurts of rain make LA livable again.
they wash the mountains into view and the mountains gather surround us again. they wash the dust off the sun, which is why the light is always brighter and warmer after than it was before. they wash my car, so i don't have to.
mullet was especially beautiful today. he squeezed twenty-five cents out of my cheap hands.

wendy
bought this, instead of something i can actually wear to my brother's wedding reception
speaking of instead, instead of drunk texting my brother for whiskey suggestions, i should probably call him to ask pertinent questions such as howthefuck we are getting out of the country
i am okay with my life revolving around my dog's bathroom breaks and snack times and patting her shaking body; i am not letting her commandeer my bed tonight

old dog in residence
my back hurts because the old dog in residence insisted on sleeping in my bed with me, in the bed in which i myself already do not entirely fit
i dreamt of watching vitas play at a piano and of my russian teacher yuliya needing me to get the HOB Anaheim to book him for free. i held his hand, which was incredibly soft.

the gidget girl midget
Some people have Alcoholic Anonymous, Starbucks, church . . . I was retreating, trying to get away from high school and boys and movies on Saturday night . . . I had Malibu.
