15-14 "pointillism"
whoever owned my processing textbook before i did penciled in "cool!" next to an example i just read through. while i have to admit that the example was indeed cool, when it's one am and i've just spent ten hours at school, and i'm drinking a gin and orange juice and still doing the book reading and haven't even touched the actual coding assignment for class tomorrow at noon, when it's 35 degrees F but feels like 28 degrees F outside and my back hurts and i have earplugs stuffed in my ears because The Artist is on the phone ranting about politics, your enthusiasm makes me sick.

snorkeling starbucks
if i take a bus to greenpoint i can be at the nearest starbucks in half an hour. what would you do for a pumpkin spice latte? is greenpoint underwater right now or is starbucks open or both?
hurricane holiday
aside from the overall tragedy that the hurricane has inflicted, this week was the perfect break and exactly what i needed to get away from the madness of school and to get to know my new roommates a lot better.
i'll be in los angeles in two and a half weeks. i've been trying to compare my bushwick home to my midcity home. they feel completely different. midcity living was wooden and country french, very unusual, beautiful, and coquettish with savory barbeques, strawberries with sour cream and brown sugar, furry sweet and mischievous animal company, a real friend family and acoustic music. bushwick is freelance grungy crisp and boozy and full of swagger, loud music, and constant surprises and has a smell that i can't put my finger on but it's definitely related to boy. i like the present and i loved the past. these are material descriptions of a feeling that i can't put to words, which is the feeling you get in your head and chest when you wake up and see light each morning, and when you pad around and touch things when no one else is home, and how the outside looks from inside and how much you can see in the dark from your bed at night. if i could really encapsulate those feelings i'd get them tattooed because they're what i would like most to preserve and flaunt.

irish pubs, setters, festivals
My roommate Artist's delightful and very Irish-American family is here. His father says things like, "That's what family's for" and "I believe in moderation in everything but adult beverages," got really excited that i was wearing a claddagh ring, and is going to teach me to step dance.
swallow saturday
this young man with an old face just insisted that i take a magazine from him to put under my laptop so it's not directly on my lap, because "it's really bad for you....especially...in those places..."

morgantown
yesterday i woke up and dyed my hair. you can't really tell there's a difference. i un-sandied my room, re-laying my rug and pushing the bed from the center of the room back to window-side. i hung new multi-colored curtains. i don't think they'll keep out the cold but they're beautiful. i talked to one of the guys who works for our building. he said we won't have the lock problem fixed until next week but that we can't leave the door propped open in the meanwhile because of our neighbors, the biker gang (still in 17) and the anarchists. the anarchists? apparently they live in 13 and 15. i wandered my new neighborhood and went to a great thrift store, where i bought two pairs of tights. will we ever run out of velvet dresses from the 80s? i lusted after the books in a used bookstore and came home and made a blackberry with lingonberry jam pie with a graham crust. it's good.
