i'm out of guld korn

It occurs to me that the H&M clothes I wore in Istanbul were manufactured in Turkey and I don't think they'd ever imagined that they'd see their homeland again.

stays frozen, like the snow in shadow

Admittedly, I have not been impressed with Copenhagen's cityscape. The buildings are quaint, but not quaint enough to evoke memories of any other time other than this one. If they are modern, they are stark naked in the same way that all modernist creations pleasure in standing before you, unabashedly jutting out their irregular metal parts. Hardly shocking.

I woke up yesterday, sat on my heater and looked out of my window upon a snow-covered courtyard. Prints of footfall and bicycle trails led out to the street. I brushed the ice off of Alex's seat and handles with mittened hands. The falling snow buzzed everywhere in tiny tufts like Nabokovian midges, not gold but white. It fell so unassumingly that it was a wonder to see that it had enchanted the entire municipality of Frederiksberg. It fell into the waiting latticed arms of trees and nestled in the crooks of their branches. A dachshund in a light jacket waddled leg-deep in the white. I wanted to pay attention in my favorite class but I was distracted by the fact that I was sitting inside the tiny glowing holiday house within a snowglobe. Through the windowpane there was whirling. I liked the way the specks settled home in my hair and dissolved on my face. The rooftops of all the buildings were fairytale-fringed in a way that I resolved to live somewhere where there would always be snow like this.

This morning, the sun was in denial of the previous day's events and everywhere there were standing pools of water. The sweet season that warms all the hills.

i hate stretching

in my opinion, 25 minutes of stretching and breathing exercises in a two-hour rehearsal is too much.

this is choir, not lamaze.

bike woes pt 456

Today I woke up at an ungodly hour to go to the police bike auction.
ungodly = 7:45 am

The auction began at 9 am. Conveniently, the S-train began running at 9 am as well.

We arrived around 9:20 am. Apparently people were at the auction at 8:30 am to inspect the bikes going up for auction. Now, how do you get there at 8:30 am when the train isn't running and you clearly don't have a bike? I don't really know.

The auction was packed so tight that you couldn't see at all over the heads. We snuck up closer the front, where the auction was going on. In lightning-speed Danish. Good practice for my Danish numbers, bad for my ego.

The going rate was a low of 450 kroner and highs of 800-900 kroner. Being a foreigner from car-city, I have never practiced my instant visual bike evaluation skills, so it was pretty damn hard to judge the condition of the bikes from the few seconds that I had to view them.

I made a few bids but was always outbid (I'm cheap.) In the end, I made the executive decision to not buy a bike. I feared nabbing a shitty bike which needed, god forbid, repairs, at 450-600 kroner plus 23% tax plus 20 kroner to cut off the lock.

Repairing my injured bike (I'm thinking about naming him Alex - but don't hold me to that) will cost 450 kroner (yes, what I paid for him to begin with. eff) and he'll be functional (hopefully.)

I think the two of us are in it for the long haul.

DOA

nice bike shop man said that bike is finished.
(the bad kind of finished)

and i'm really offended that this happened at all.

attempted grand theft bicycle

Someone tried to steal my vehicle last night.

S/he/the immoral fool decided to get on a locked bike and try riding it away, effectively tangling the coil lock in the gear. (oh how I truly miss my u-lock)
I was able to get the lock out of the gear this morning (my hands have been coated in tar/grease all morning), but I think having the coil lock jammed in the gear messed it up somehow. The chain dropped when I tried riding the bike. I called Andrea, a boy from Venice, and he put the chain back on for me (aka I'm useless), but it fell almost immediately when I tried riding it again.

So once again, bike is in the shop. I hold my bikes in high regard and take it personally when they are unwell, so I'm pretty bummed out.

"In Italy, a cheap bike would be like 300 kroner. Even cheaper if you get it from thieves." - Andrea

i think i may stay in the CBS choir for the sole reason that they're singing in a danish prison this semester. no final decisions as of yet.

i do miss oriana. i miss our repertoire and the way the sound resonates through the room.

unfortunately, danish choirs apparently also have a penchant for singing stupid-sounding african choral  arrangements. some things just don't change.

natural conditions

i like to keep my heater on full blast and wear a tank top and shorts. i call it habitat recreation.

the guardian.experience

"I wish I could say I grew up that day, but it wasn't that simple. Going to France represented a tiny risk in the scheme of risks taken by most 18-year-olds, but it went so catastrophically wrong that, in a way, it stopped me growing up for years."

framptons

i don't think i like meg&dia's over-processed sound on here, here and here and this excommunication is the worst kind of heartbreak

black wedding was much better live and what if is really kind of terrible
sounds like a 90s skateboard movie soundtrack

objects

i don't really like pictures of people taking pictures or holding cameras. the self-reflexivity bothers me.

also, i don't like that i use a morning scrub morning and night aka i am susceptible to marketing.

søren

Licentiousness, envy, gossip, and mediocrity are everywhere supreme. Were I to die now the effect of my life would be exceptional; much of what I have simply jotted down carelessly in the Journals would become of great importance and have a great effect; for then people would have grown reconciled to me and would be able to grant me what was, and is, my right.

question

do you ever feel guilt for so often finding other people's thoughts nauseating?

moral compass - not as useful as real compass

In order to make navigation impossible, the streets in Copenhagen change names every couple of hundred feet. Gobthabsvej becomes Rolighedsvej becomes Rosenørns Alle. Peter Bangs Vej becomes Smallegade becomes Gammel Kongevej. The names are obscurely printed on the sides of buildings instead of on signs, if not omitted altogether.
I didn't realize I was lost until I biked past a Sanrio I had never seen before.

the chickadee sitting next to me in my lecture this morning was wearing some sort of perfume that made me want to die

scents officially prohibited in classrooms

i'm buying books off of someone in an hour and all i wanted to do was go to the library and sleep at a desk but no kidding every single table in three stories of library is inhabited by a studious dane. and they're definitely not sleeping a la Leavey Library residents.

i keep making typos because of this danish keyboard.
