i made these logos for the band. maybe this will inspire us to rehearse.

Right after New Orleans, Bagel visited New York for the first time. As you can see, he's very patient with my practicing my portraiture on him. I've been getting many good reactions to my pictures so I've been feeling more confident / inspired to click around. We went all around New York City and ate delicious things and had artisanal coffee hour every day. We consumed Thai noodles and stir fry, Venezuelan arepas, amazing Tibetan curry and salad, pizza, ice cream sandwiches, prepackaged bread, Japanese ramen, Cuban yucca and mojitos, bodega pastrami sandwiches, et al. When we ate together I could no longer remember what city I was in - Los Angeles or New York City or on vacation in another place entirely? It was impossible to tell. I started worrying about the things I'd forgotten to pack. We affirmed the traits that we like about each other and talked about things we'd like to learn to do in life. We slept in late. We went to Sleep No More, we 3-D printed a dinosaur egg, we played chess (twice), we made banana bread, we went shopping, we saw Lexa (twice), we walked around a rooftop on Wall Street and sat in an old bank vault. We hid in my room and watched an Animal Planet special on military dogs in Afghanistan. woof. The to-do list was not completed because there are too many things to-do in New York, so they will have to wait for the future: music at Jalopy, key lime pie in Red Hook, Russian food in Brighton Beach, Balthazar, Central Park, Pok Pok.

cold cream

WHEN a pot of cold cream to Eliza you send,
You with words to this purpose your present commend;
Whoe'er with this cream shall her countenance smear,
All redness and roughness will strait disappear,
And the skin to a wonder be charmingly clear;
If pimples arise, this will take them away;
If the small-pox should mark you, those marks will decay;
If wrinkled through age, or bad dawbing the face is,
'Twill be smooth in a trice, as the best Venice glass is;
All this, and much more (could I spare time to write it,
Or my pen go as fast, as your lips would indite it)
You affirm of your cream: and I would not abuse it,
But pray tell me one thing—Do you yourself use it?
—Dr. Russell, To A Lady: in imitation of the thirtieth Epigram of the fifth Book of Martial

new orleans 2013

New Orleans has historied balconies and galleries supporting probable Scarlet O'Hara ghosts and dixieland jazz playing on every corner. The food in New Orleans is repulsive and expensive. Deep fried paired with deep fried, exuding oil with every bite. Gumbo was like a bowl of slimy snot. I ate nothing that I would crave to eat again. Service is slow. There's no rush to do anything. At night Bourbon Street turns into controlled debauchery. It has that sinful Las Vegas-feel, but the scene is much more interesting. Zombie drunks stumble around with glazed eyes and prop up and help support other zombies who can' t walk anymore. I couldn't figure out how they become so drunk, because all of the drinks tasted like pure sugar water and sour mix. Mounted police stand everywhere and drunk people pet the horses. I drank sugar water out of a plastic fish bowl. I let one horse chew on my entire hand. People stand on balconies, dangling beads and screaming wordless banshee screams to get your attention. They have beads! They want you to beg for them. Eventually they become bored because no one will beg, so they begin to pelt the beads down from the skies and they hit you hard on the head and shoulders. The streets reek of booze and sewage and then they hose the entire French Quarter clean every morning. Meanwhile, monstrous alligators with big hard heads lurk in the bayou waters, waiting for their hot dogs and marshmallows.

fol chen

Over the winter The Eternal Bachelor mentioned to me that he's playing with a new band and that it's going on tour soon. I finally got a chance to listen to their jams today and it's really very cool. It's right up my synth-pop alley, which shouldn't be surprising given my and The Bachelor's shared taste for most things, like Taylor and everything else teenaged girls like. He said they're supposed to be playing NY in April, which would be extremely fun to see. Check them out - http://www.spin.com/articles/fol-chen-200-words-video-the-false-alarms

elvis where are you when i need you most

when i'm out in brooklyn i hear lykke li and i hear lana del rey, standard bi-coastal alternative fare, but i never hear sleigh bells, which to me is the quintessential brooklyn sound. what's up? i still love you, alexis.

total nonsenses

there is nothing i like more than finishing an entire bottle/container of cosmetic or toiletry liquid/balm/salve/paste. it makes me feel very accomplished and i usually look forward to it for days when nearing the end. more than anything right now, i want to eat a cup of steamed egg. i thought long and hard about stealing eggs from my roommates to do it, like a fox in the fridgehouse, and ultimately decided not to thieve and to eat buffalo bleu kettle chips instead and now it's 2:41am i'm very unsatisfied. enough of this nonsense i will tap about spring break tomorrow.
