i'm watching something strange on logo...what else is new

fayta

the pig is in greece. living situation:
Valerie: blah blah feta (pronounced 'fay-ta') blah
Jana: uh, Valerie. It's FETA, not fayta. You've been pronouncing it incorrectly for four months, and it needs to stop.
Melinda: (silence)
Christina: (eating cookies in the living room, laughing/groaning)
Valerie: well, whatever...I pronounce a lot of things wrong
Jana: that's a TERRIBLE excuse. Please don't leave Greece mispronouncing 'feta'
Valerie: (begins to cry)
Jana: (closes door)

boo hoo

i would forgo my last cinema classes ever for a shower right now

picked up my graduation neck strings, drinking a carmel [sic] covered apple milkshake in gz, for the first time feeling kind of blue about graduating

fame, notoriety

i'll have you know, that the main picture for pazzo on yelp, is mine

thank thuh lord

so... the class for which i lost all my notes when my computer ran away...apparently has no final

good life. sit, stay

my final, apparently, was that horrible paper i wrote while abroad and delirious

les deux

so...this reality television star party i went to tonight was definitely upstaged by the porn star party that followed

i talked to a porn director, a famous plastic surgeon, and hustled drink tickets from some r.television guy i didn't recognize

hello? laptop? it's me

my ma just asked me if i could call my laptop to find out where it is

my ma, saying i should get an apple because everyone else has an apple
my pa, saying that he is an engineer and listing the reasons why he doesn't like apples and how it's still a "pc world"
my ma, saying that i shouldn't be deprived if everyone else has an apple.
my ma, threatening to go out and buy me an apple tomorrow (she doesn't know a thing about computers)
my pa, pointing out that she doesn't know a thing about computers
me, insisting to defer to my pa's preferences because i want him to be happy
so it is in the chen household

using someone else's computer is like wearing someone else's underwear

today i found two pennies, heads down, next to my car door. повезло?

adam

it occurs to me, that i, who names all things, never named my computer. this lack of recognition is why he ran away from home, insulted.
or i traded it in a deal with the devil, during stopped time in a forgotten chance meeting, for better things

gogol project

Akaky Akakievich was taken away and buried. And Petersburg was left without Akaky Akakievich, as if he had never been there. Vanished and gone was the being, protected by no one, dear to no one, interesting to no one, who had not even attracted the attention of a naturalist - who does not fail to stick a pin through a common fly and examine it under a microscope; a being who humbly endured office mockery and went to his grave for no particular reason, but for whom, all the same, though at the end of his life, there had flashed a bright visitor in the form of an overcoat, animating for an instant his poor life, and upon whom disaster then fell as unbearably as it falls upon the kings and rulers of this world...

the fantasticks

waking up with a song in your head: has your mind been singing in your sleep?

tangled in interwebs

my connection grasp of the internet is so tentative that it's as if i don't have it at all. listening to horrible, soul-sucking radio in my bedroom that zzzs in and out of tuning. unbearably archaic.
potential recovery of my own computer looking very bleak.
my brother says this is a good opportunity to buy a new laptop, but i only want my mammoth and all its little files.

lax

a german shepherd and a beagle sniffed me in the airport. no tropical fruit here, puppies.

danshui

people rarely spoke taiwanese in the big city in the past. it was considered rural, low-class compared to mandarin. but now, it is quite commonplace to hear it in taipei. an expression of national solidarity.

my parents moved us from the center of taipei to a condo next to a mangrove forest. right now going to go swimming in the rain.

city boy

we spent time this week with my father's friends from high school, whom he hadn't seen or spoken to in forty years. when i asked him what they did in high school, he said, "nothing much," because he is an unforthcoming man. when i pressed him for details, he said, "we went swimming and played ping-pong."

seafood by the seashore

yesterday at lunch my grandpa/ah-gong was talking about his last year of medical school, when all the universities were shut down and all the students were conscripted. they were stationed at a beach, in case the americans decided to attack the japanese from there. they spent their days digging trenches. in theory, if the americans landed, their vehicles would fall into the trenches.

the students starved - they had no food and raided neighboring farmers for yams. in theory, if the americans arrived, he and his peers were supposed to fight them, even though they were only a bunch of would-be doctors with no guns or other form of weaponry.

hello tomorrow

i went to filmLA today and they had these elevators unlike any i had ever seen before. after passing through security and acquiring your identification badge you have to walk across the filming lot (mad men?) into a different building. you have to tell the next security where you're going and they assign you to a specific elevator "go to C" that they have programmed from their desk, via computer, to take you to your destination floor, because inside the elevator, there are no buttons.

it's important to compare

Enos was originally scheduled to complete three orbits, but was brought back after the second orbit because the spacecraft was not maintaining proper attitude. According to observers, Enos jumped for joy and ran around the deck of the recovery ship enthusiastically shaking the hands of his rescuers.

does an old dog wonder why it's hard to jump onto the couch now? or why her human isn't around every day anymore

i hear there was a flask

these minute spurts of rain make LA livable again.
they wash the mountains into view and the mountains gather surround us again. they wash the dust off the sun, which is why the light is always brighter and warmer after than it was before. they wash my car, so i don't have to.

mullet was especially beautiful today. he squeezed twenty-five cents out of my cheap hands.

wendy

observe, my body
bought this, instead of something i can actually wear to my brother's wedding reception

speaking of instead, instead of drunk texting my brother for whiskey suggestions, i should probably call him to ask pertinent questions such as howthefuck we are getting out of the country

i am okay with my life revolving around my dog's bathroom breaks and snack times and patting her shaking body; i am not letting her commandeer my bed tonight

old dog in residence

my back hurts because the old dog in residence insisted on sleeping in my bed with me, in the bed in which i myself already do not entirely fit

i dreamt of watching vitas play at a piano and of my russian teacher yuliya needing me to get the HOB Anaheim to book him for free. i held his hand, which was incredibly soft.

Some people have Alcoholic Anonymous, Starbucks, church . . . I was retreating, trying to get away from high school and boys and movies on Saturday night . . . I had Malibu.
